StomaCompass is made by one person, not a company. This page says what the app collects, where it goes, and how to get rid of it.

The short version

What the app collects

InformationWhy
Your email addressTo sign you in. We send a six-digit code to it; there is no password.
Your profile: stoma type, typical transit time, approximate surgery date, timezone, how many days you wear a bag, and a first name if you give oneSo the patterns the app shows are worked out for you rather than for an average person.
What you log: meals and the foods in them, output, drinks, bag changes, and how many photos you have scanned each dayThis is the diary. It is the whole point of the app.
Crash reportsIf the app crashes, a report of what went wrong helps fix it. See "Crash reports" below for what is stripped out first.

The app does not collect your location, your contacts, or anything from other apps on your phone. It asks for the camera only when you take a photo of a meal.

Where it goes

Three services handle your information. No others do.

ServiceWhat it receivesWhere
Supabase (account and database)Your email, profile and logs. Each person's rows are locked to their own account at the database level.Ireland (EU, eu-west-1)
Google Gemini (reading meal photos)The meal photo, once, so the foods on the plate can be named. The photo is not stored by StomaCompass. Google processes it under its own terms, in Google's data centres.Google
Sentry (crash reports)Crash reports with personal details removed. See below.EU (Germany)

Meal photos

When you photograph a meal, the photo goes to Google's Gemini model to name the foods. The list of foods comes back and is saved in your log; the photo itself is not saved anywhere by StomaCompass. Not on our servers, and not in your account. If you want to keep the photo, keep it on your phone.

Crash reports

If the app crashes, a report goes to Sentry so it can be fixed. Before it leaves your phone, the report has photos, notes, names, foods, email addresses and request contents removed. It carries the version of the app, the type of phone, and where in the code it fell over. Nothing from your diary.

What stays on your phone

Everything you log is saved on your phone first, so the app works without a signal, and catches up with your account when you are back online. Signing out empties the copy on the phone.

Your rights, and how to use them

The rights above are yours wherever you live. If you are in the UK or the EU, UK GDPR and the EU GDPR apply as well. If you want to do any of the above and the app is not letting you, or you have a question or a complaint, email hello@stomacompass.com. You also have the right to complain to your data protection regulator; for the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office.

How long it is kept

Until you delete it. There is no automatic deletion of a live account, because a diary is only useful if it is still there. Crash reports expire at Sentry after 30 days.

Children

The app is for adults. It is not aimed at anyone under 18.

Changes

The date at the top is the date of the last change. If something changes in a way that matters, it will be said plainly here.
