Terms of use
Last updated 13 September 2026
These are the terms for using the StomaCompass app and this website. They are short because there is not much to say. "We" means the founder of StomaCompass, who makes it as one person rather than a company.
What StomaCompass is
StomaCompass is a diary. It names the foods in a photo of a meal, tells you what is generally said about each one, keeps a log of what you eat, drink and pass, and shows you patterns in your own logs.
What it is not
It is not medical advice, and it is not a medical device. It does not diagnose anything and it does not tell you what to eat. The food information in the app is what stoma care teams generally tell people, written in everyday words; it is general, not about you. The patterns it shows are counts from your own logs, nothing more. Your stoma nurse and your doctor know you. If something is worrying you, speak to them.
The app can be wrong. A photo shows what is on top of a plate, not what is stirred into a sauce, and the foods it names are a best reading, not a fact. Check the list before you save it.
Your account
- You need to be 18 or over.
- You sign in with a code sent to your email. Keep that inbox to yourself; anyone who can read it can open your diary.
- Your logs are yours. You can download them or delete your whole account at any time from Settings › Account. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.
Fair use
Photo scans are limited to a small number each day. Please do not try to get round that, break into the service, or use it for anything other than your own diary.
Availability
The app is offered as it is. We will do our best to keep it running and to fix what breaks, but cannot promise it will always be available or always be right. Your logs are saved on your phone first, so a server being down does not lose what you have written.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss that comes from relying on the app, and in particular from treating anything it says as medical advice. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under UK law.
Changes and ending
These terms may change; the date at the top is the date of the last change. You can stop using the app at any time by deleting your account. We may close the service with reasonable notice, and you would be able to download your logs first.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
